Where
Camelback Road from 91st to 99th avenues is scheduled for fiber optic communications, as well as two closed circuit television cameras and a dynamic message sign as part of AZ Tech ™ smart corridors third phase, a region-wide effort to deploy the intelligent transportation system.
Glendale’s Traffic Management Center monitors traffic cameras throughout the city to observe traffic flows and patterns. As the system is built up in the area around the arena and stadium, dynamic message signs will provide drivers information on roadway conditions that can be displayed in real time.
This project is a component of a fiber optic communications project for the sports facilities area, including Bethany Home Road and 91st and 95th avenues. Phase three is currently under design and will begin construction in the fall of 2006. Construction of the first two phases, which included cameras at intersections along 59th Avenue in Glendale are complete.
The total regional cost of AZtech™ Smart Corridors Phase 3 is $1.95 million, of which approximately $420,000 will be used to implement ITS technology on Camelback Road in Glendale. |
