Who owns the stadium?
It is the responsibility of the AZSTA to oversee design and construction of the multi-purpose football facility and, ultimately, to own and operate the facility. The AZSTA is also responsible for distributing public funds generated by an increase in the tax on hotel beds and rental cars to additional stakeholders identified in Proposition 302, namely, youth and amateur sports, tourism promotion and Cactus League baseball.

The AZSTA was created through an Act of the State Legislature (SB 1220) and referred to the voters of Maricopa County (Proposition 302), which was approved by the voters on Nov. 7, 2000.

The AZSTA is overseen by a nine-member board of directors, all of whom are volunteers and appointed by the Governor, the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House.

Who is being taxed to pay for the costs of the stadium?
Taxes began being levied in Maricopa County on March 1, 2001 and will end on February 28, 2031. The taxes are collected from a Car Rental Surcharge of 3.25 percent and a Hotel Tax of 1 percent in Maricopa County.

Who is responsible for the stadium operations?
It is the responsibility of the Arizona Sports & Tourism Authority (AZSTA) to oversee the design and construction of the new multi-purpose football facility and, ultimately, to own and operate the facility. Global Spectrum manages the stadium.

City Services (Business and Resident Information)

General

Will the new stadium take away from the nice family events that have been traditionally held in the downtown? Aren’t the two going to compete against each other?
No, the stadium will not be taking away from the nice family events that have been held in the downtown area. The stadium is a new addition and will be used for various upcoming events, but the city of Glendale will still be holding events throughout the city, such as Glendale’s Hometown Fourth of July, Glendale Glitters, Glendale Chocolate Affaire and the Glendale Jazz & Blues Festival. Many events will still be taking place in Historic Downtown. To learn more about events, please visit www.glendaleaz.com.

Neighborhoods / Housing

Is there anything I need to know if I rent my house out for events at the stadium?
Homeowners must obtain a city tax license to rent their home for any period of time. These may be obtained from the City of Glendale Tax and License Department via the Web site by clicking here or by calling the department at (623) 930-3190.

The City of Glendale is planning on distributing rear-view mirror hangers to people who live near the stadium for use on game day. Homeowners will be responsible for transferring stickers/hangers to their renters.

The house next door to mine is a rental unit, and it seems like every time there is a big event at the stadium, he rents it out to different people. I’m tired of the traffic and people coming and going all the time. Is there anything I can do?
The city of Glendale is working on various neighborhood protection plans to keep traffic from entering neighborhood streets. Unfortunately, you cannot keep someone from renting their house out, but the owners must have the residential hangers in their car in order to enter the local streets.

Traffic Planning / Street Closures

The streets I normally use to get in and out of my home near the stadium are always blocked off during events at the stadium or arena – where can I learn more about alternate routes?
Please visit www.glendaleaz.com and click on “Getting Around Glendale.”

Transportation

When will the city’s bus service extend out to both the arena and the stadium?
Valley Metro is planning express service on Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) that may include a stop at the sports complex. This West Loop 101 Connector route will operate both northbound and southbound in the morning and afternoon between Arrowhead Towne Center and Desert Sky Mall. Service is slated to begin in mid 2008. Valley Metro is also planning to enhance fixed route bus service on Glendale Avenue (2008) and Camelback Road (2012). These routes may provide service directly to the complex or by way of a transfer to an as yet to be developed neighborhood circulator or shuttle route. How these routes will interact with the sports complex will be determined in the operations planning process that will be undertaken prior to the start of service. That transit operations planning process will be done in partnership with the affected communities, including Glendale, Phoenix and Peoria.
